Spring transforms the walking route. The bare branches of winter give way to hawthorn blossom, bluebells appear in the woodland fringes, and the water meadows turn a vivid green. Our alpacas respond to the change too — cooler, brighter mornings put them in a curious, playful frame of mind, so you tend to get a more engaged, characterful companion on the lead than at the peak of summer heat.
Meeting the mums-to-be
Late spring is the run-up to cria season, when many of our females are preparing to give birth. Visiting now means you can meet the expectant mothers and learn how we look after them through pregnancy. It adds a lovely sense of occasion, and it is a wonderful talking point for children who love the thought of a baby alpaca on the way.
Who it suits
A spring walk works for almost everyone. Families flock to us over the Easter holidays, couples enjoy a peaceful morning together, and it makes a memorable Mother's Day treat. Children aged three to twelve share a lead with a grown-up, twelve to sixteen-year-olds lead with an adult alongside, and anyone sixteen and over can handle their own alpaca. What to wear and bring
Spring in Hampshire is changeable, so layers are your friend — a fleece and a light waterproof cover most eventualities. Sturdy trainers or walking boots are ideal, as a few stretches can stay soft underfoot after rain. Bring a fully charged phone or camera, because the blossom-framed photo opportunities are excellent, and perhaps a small bag for any muddy bits afterwards.

An extra walker can be added for £18, and rescheduling insurance is available for £4.50 if the British spring weather looks uncertain.
