It works best as the opening event of a weekend, or a lower-key afternoon slotted between something rowdier the night before and something rowdier the night after. It's not a activity that needs anyone to be sporty, sober-adjacent to functioning, or particularly coordinated — you're walking at an alpaca's pace, which is slow, occasionally stubborn, and entirely unbothered by anyone's fitness level. Groups of mixed ages tend to enjoy it more than a pure lads' blowout expecting an adrenaline hit; if your group is 16 or over, everyone walks their own alpaca independently.
What to Expect on the Day
You'll turn up at our stag do alpaca walk event at Itchen Valley Country Park, get introduced to the herd of 40-plus alpacas, and be paired up with an animal for the two-hour session. A handler walks with the group throughout, so there's always someone on hand when an alpaca decides the walk is over for reasons known only to itself. Southampton, Winchester and Eastleigh are all around fifteen minutes away, with Portsmouth, Fareham, Romsey, Basingstoke and the New Forest not much further, so it slots in easily whether the group's staying locally or converging from further afield for the weekend. Plenty of groups book the walk for late morning, then head into Southampton or Winchester afterwards for lunch and whatever the rest of the itinerary holds. It's a good way to get everyone in one place and talking before the weekend properly gets going.
