🗓️ Book This Walk

If you're searching for something different to do near Waterlooville this year, a guided alpaca walk at Itchen Valley Country Park might just be it. Hensting Alpacas welcomes small groups from Waterlooville, Horndean, Cowplain and the wider Havant borough for a relaxed, two-hour walk where you lead your very own halter-trained alpaca alongside one of our experienced handlers.

How far is it from Waterlooville?

Itchen Valley Country Park sits on Allington Lane in West End, Southampton, SO30 3HQ — around 16 miles from Waterlooville. Most visitors take the A3(M) down to the M27 westbound and are parked up within 35 to 40 minutes, making it an easy half-day trip rather than a full day out. There's no motorway traffic to fight through in the way you'd get heading into central Portsmouth, so the drive itself is part of the appeal.

Why Waterlooville families keep coming back

We find a lot of our Waterlooville bookings come from people who've already done the more obvious days out — Queen Elizabeth Country Park, the seafront at Southsea, the play areas around Cowplain — and want something they haven't tried before. An alpaca walk ticks that box without needing a full day's planning. You'll meet our herd of more than 40 alpacas, choose (or be matched with) a calm, halter-trained companion, and spend two unhurried hours walking the country park's woodland and meadow paths at alpaca pace, which is to say: slowly, and with a lot of stopping to admire the view.

Good for groups of all shapes

We regularly host groups travelling in from the Waterlooville and Horndean area for birthdays, anniversaries and simple "let's do something different this weekend" outings. Children aged 3 to 12 share a lead with an adult, those 12 to 16 can lead independently with an adult present, and anyone 16 and over walks solo. Wednesdays from April to October are our accessible-access sessions, with free tickets for carers — handy if you're bringing along a grandparent or a family member with mobility needs.

Booking from Waterlooville

Walks start from £32 per person, with family packages from £92 and baby-alpaca walks from £54. An extra walker can join for £18, and £4.50 buys you rescheduling insurance if you're nervous about the Hampshire weather changing your plans. We're a family-run, BAS-registered herd with 16 years' experience, so you're in experienced hands from the moment you arrive. Gift vouchers are available if you'd rather give the experience than book it outright.
