Two hours leading your own alpaca through Itchen Valley Country Park, just a short drive from Bursledon and the River Hamble. Guided, family-run and from £32 per person.
If you live in Bursledon, you already know how good life feels on the water. Swap the boats and mudflats for something a little woollier: a gentle two-hour stroll through Itchen Valley Country Park with an alpaca of your very own on a lead rope.
Bursledon sits on the eastern side of Southampton, and our walks start at Itchen Valley Country Park on Allington Lane in West End, SO30 3HQ. Most Bursledon visitors allow around 10 to 15 minutes by car, which means you can be home for lunch or the pub within minutes of finishing. There is free-to-reach parking at the park, so no juggling of lifts or buses.
You meet your experienced handler and our halter-trained alpacas at the start. After a short briefing on how alpacas like to be led, you choose your companion and set off across the park. Our herd has more than 40 alpacas, each with their own character, so there is usually one that suits quiet dog-walkers and another for the cheeky ones. You lead your animal yourself throughout, stopping for photographs, nibbles of grass and plenty of fluffy conversation.
Bursledon is full of families, sailing couples and retirees, and all of them fit in. Children aged 3 to 12 share a lead with an adult, 12 to 16s lead with an adult present, and anyone 16 or over can walk independently. Accessible walks run every Wednesday from April to October, with free carer tickets.
Walks start from £32 per person, family packages are from £92, and baby alpaca walks are from £54. Extra walkers are £18 each, and rescheduling insurance is £4.50 if the Hampshire weather keeps you guessing. Gift vouchers are available too, which makes a lovely present for a Bursledon neighbour.
Family-run for 16 years and BAS-registered, we would love to welcome you. Questions? Call 0333 050 4012, or read our Bursledon alpaca walking guide before you book.
